Norway's varied and rugged landscape and harsh winter conditions are great for winter training and exercises. Our vast sea and air territories are also perfect for complex military exercises. Because of this, Norway often plays host to several multinational exercises. In 2018, NATO will hold exercise Trident Juncture in Norway. About 25,000 soldiers are expected to participate.
The Norwegian Armed Forces also have a long history of being an active participator in international operations – from the brigades in Germany in the late 1940s, to complex and advanced military operations in Afghanistan in the 2000s. Today, several hundred people from the Norwegian Armed Forces work all over the globe on behalf of the UN, multinational coalitions and NATO.
