Facts and figures

How many people serve in the Norwegian Armed Forces? What is our budget? Find your facts here.

The Norwegian Armed Forces are among the most modern forces in the world, both in terms of equipment and expertise.

We are present all over the country – on land, at sea and in the air. The Defence Staff Headquarters is in Oslo, while the Joint Headquarters is situated in Bodø, Northern Norway.

The Army Staff is in Bardufoss, Northern Norway, and the Navy Staff is at Haakonsvern in Bergen, Western Norway. The Air Force Staff is situated in Rygge, Eastern Norway.

There are two main airbases: one in Bodø and one in Ørland, Central Norway. When the new F-35 fighter jets are implemented from 2017, Ørland will be the only main airbase in the Norwegian Air Force.

In addition to the main bases, we have more than 30 other bases and departments all over the country.
