Liberation and Veterans' Day 2016

8 May is Norway's Liberation Day. It is also the day we honour all our veterans and their efforts for Norway.

On this day we honour all our veterans and their families – from World War II to today's international operations.

After World War II, more than 100,000 Norwegians have served in almost a hundred different international operations in more than 40 countries on four continents.

After the government decided to establish veteran day in 2011, the Ministry of Defence has laid the foundation for making this day into a large-scale event with ceremonies all across the country. The Government's main event takes place at Akershus Fortress in Oslo.
