Armed Forces' Commemoration Day

Every first Sunday in November, we honour those who have lost their lives while on duty for the Norwegian Armed Forces – in Norway and abroad.

Survivors, relatives and friends have long wished for a ceremony to honour the memory of those who have lost their lives while on duty for the Norwegian Armed Forces. In 2007, the Norwegian Chief of Defence established the Armed Forces' Commemoration Day. This day is held annually on the first Sunday in November.

During the day, the Armed Forces honour the ones who lost their lives, both in Norway and abroad. The day is also held in honour for those who are left behind, and for everyone who is mentally or physically scarred after serving for the Armed Forces.

There will be several events of different kinds all over the country on 1 November 2015.
