In 1998–99 the non-proliferation regime was in a state of crisis. While this crisis mostly has been blamed on the Indian and Pakistani nuclear test in May 1998, Sidhu argues that the reality is more complex. The regime’s crisis was evident even before, and continued after, these events. In this study Sidhu asks what challenges were raised to the non-proliferation regime by the events in South Asia. And did these events also have positive impact on the regime?
