About IFS

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies (IFS) was founded in 1980 and is part of the Norwegian Defence University College. IFS’s main activities are concentrated in the areas of research, teaching and dissemination. The institute is Norway’s foremost centre of security and defence studies.

The thematic focus covers contemporary history and relevant studies of Norwegian and international security, civil–military and transatlantic relations.​​​​​​​​​​​

The Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies is organised into four centres​​​
