Helge Danielsen ​​​(b. 1968) is professor of modern history. He has been member of the IFS staff since 2008, doing research on topics such as Norwegian NATO-policy and US–Norway relations during the Cold War. He was Head of the Centre for Security Policy at IFS from 2016–2019, and Head of Research in the autumn of 2014 and spring of 2017.

Danielsen has a PhD in history from the University of Oslo (UO) (2004), where he was research fellow at the Department of History (1999–2003), coordinator for an Oral History Project under the Forum for Contemporary History (2003–2004), and postdoctoral fellow at the same Forum (2004–2008).

He has broad experience in teaching and supervising students at both FHS and UO. From 2010 to 2013 he was responsible (convenor) for the MA-course “NATO – alliance cooperation” at FHS. From 2020–2023, he was leader of the study program ‘Master in military studies’ at FHS.
