Major General Michelsen to JFC Norfolk
The Norwegian Ministry of Defence has decided that Major General Elisabeth G. Michelsen will be appointed to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff Operations at the Joint Force Command Norfolk in Virginia, USA.
This relatively newly established NATO command, responsible for, among other things, the Atlantic link to Europe and the defence of Norway, is highly prioritised. The Norwegian Armed Forces are therefore going to contribute several new positions towards 2025.
“It is important for Norway to staff this headquarters with competent personnel, and I am very pleased that Major General Michelsen is taking on this key position now,” says the Chief of the Norwegian Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Ingrid Gjerde.
Broad and Important Expertise
Gjerde points out that Michelsen has long and varied joint operational experience, and that she has achieved good results from leadership levels in the Norwegian Joint Headquarters and as chief of the Norwegian Home Guard.
“It is also important that she brings solid land military competence,” says Lieutenant General Gjerde.
Michelsen has spent the last year leading the Armed Forces' profession and culture project in the Defence Staff. The two-year project is in its first year, and the project's work on profession and culture will continue as planned.
The ambition of the project has been to ensure that the Norwegian Armed Forces have leaders, employees, and soldiers capable of addressing today’s and tomorrow’s missions, while fostering a culture characterised by unity, trust, well-being, and resilience based on values.
