Press release: Exercise FLOTEX 20 has started

The Royal Norwegian Navy’s annual exercise FLOTEX is currently taking place outside the coast of Northern Norway.

Norwegian and Allied maritime military assets – including Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1). Several Norwegian air assets will also take part, including maritime patrol aircrafts (MPA), F-16, F-35 and DA-20. 

In order to maintain situational awareness as «NATO in the North», continuous and credible presence is needed. Due to the ongoing global pandemic, both planning and execution of this year`s exercise has been carried out with mitigating measures in order to avoid operational impacts. 

End date for FLOTEX 20 is November 27th.

Facts FLOTEX 20

  • FLOTEX is an annual exercise held in the North of Norway.
  • Participating Norwegian vessels are HNoMS Fridtjof Nansen, HNoMS Utsira, HNoMS Gnist, HNoMS Skjold, HNoMS Glimt and HNoMS Magnus Lagabøte. Norwegian Coastal Rangers, Norwegian Naval EOD Command and Norwegian Maritime Combat Service & Support (MARCSS) is also taking part.
  • The Royal Danish Navy will participate with HDMS Triton
  • SNMG1 is partaking with NRP Corte Real (POR) and HMCS Toronto (CAN).
