Mats Berdal

Mats Berdal is a Visiting Professor at IFS on research leave from the Department of War Studies at King’s College London, where he is Professor of Security and Development, Director of the Conflict, Security and Development Research Programme (CSDRG) as well as Programme Director for the MA in Conflict, Security and Development. He joined King’s College London in 2003, having previously been Director of Studies at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London from 2000 to 2003.

While at IFS he will be working on two major projects: a study of the political economy of civil wars and UN peace operations, and a book on The UN and Search for International Order, 1989–1996.
