Kjell Inge Bjerga
Kjell Inge Bjerga, PhD, Professor of history. Director of the Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies (IFS) since 2017. Research fellow at the IFS 1997–2005, Head IFS Security Policy 2005–2007, Head IFS Civil-military Relations 2007–2011, and Head of IFS Defence Reform Research Programme 2012–2016.
Dean at the Norwegian Defence University College 2014–2017. Chief Editor the Norwegian Joint Operational Doctrine 2005–2007. Head Secretary of The Government’s Working Group on Military Aid to Civilian Authorities 2016. Member of the Norwegian Government’s Screening Commission 2022–2023. NATO Defense College Senior Course 2023 (Vice President).
Bjerga has published extensively on security and defence policy, long-term planning, doctrine, organisation, command systems and strategic management, national and international. He is author of The History of the Norwegian Ministry of Defence 1940–2014 and has lectured at civilian and military universities for 25 years.
