Helkala is a professor at the Norwegian Defence Cyber Academy.
She holds a Master of Science degree in mathematics from the University of Joensuu, Finland and a PhD within information security from the University of Oslo, Norway.
Helkala teaches mathematics and supervises information and cyber security related student workshops, term papers and thesis. Her research interest lays on human factor in cyber security.
