Lieutenant Colonel Kåre Inge Skarsvåg is the primary instructor in military leadership at the Norwegian Defence University College/Air Force Academy.

Skarsvåg has over 36 years of service as an officer in the Armed Forces, with leadership experience in command and control at various stations/units in the Air Force. Before joining the Defence University College, he was a squadron commander and deputy chief of staff at the Air Force Station Mågerø. He has four years of experience from a NATO position at Combined Air Operation Centre 1 in Denmark. He has participated in international operations in Lithuania.

Skarsvåg has military education from the Air Force Academy I and II, the Armed Forces Staff College I, and Military Joint Operations (VOU). He holds a master’s degree in innovation and knowledge management from HINT/Copenhagen Business School, and his master’s thesis focused on how coaching  was conducted at the Air Force’s Leadership Development Program for middle managers.

Since 2022, Skarsvåg has been responsible for the Armed Forces’ mentoring program, which is a leadership development program with mentoring for high level leaders in the Armed Forces. The program’s goal is to develop leaders and leadership processes in the higher echelons of the Armed Forces.

In the period 2020-2024, Skarsvåg was responsible for the modular continuing education in leadership for pilots and navigators. This is a task the Defence University College solves on behalf of the Air Force. (15 credits)

From 2012 to 2018, Skarsvåg led Base Camp - a leadership development program for military and civilian middle managers in the Air Force.(15 credits)

In collaboration with Christina Stokkeland, he has developed and for several years conducted the in-depth study for cadets “Coaching as a Practical Foundation for Leadership” (15 credits).
