P-3 Orion’s very last mission
With Andøy municipality, the Royal Norwegian Air Force invites the public to Andøya Air Station Friday 30 June to honour P-3 Orion’s last mission. When the last P-3 Orion goes in for landing this day, 54 years of continuous operations comes to an end.
When the P-3 Orion is back at Andøya after solving their mission in the northern areas, the airplane will be met by the P-8 Poseidon in the air above the air station, to hand over the maritime patrol mission.
The P-3 Orion mission has been substantial - right up to the very end. Especially in regards to the last year, with a new security situation in Europe, the P-3 Orion has increased the number of missions at the end of its operational life.
- I am very proud of the work that our personnel has put in over all these years, especially the last year. Being regularly present in the northern areas has not only been important to build situational awareness, but also to enable us to uncover any changes in the operational pattern of our neighbour to the east, says Lasse Berg, commander at Andøya Air Station.
