24 March: Visit Norwegian F-35s and P-8 at Evenes Air Force Base

The Royal Norwegian Air Force would like to invite media to Evenes Air Force Base on 24 March.

Most of the Norwegian F-35 operates out of Ørland Air Force Base, but the NATO Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) operates out of Evenes Air Base in the northern Norway. All year around two fighter jets is on continuous standby for NATO and Norway, and within 15 minutes the F-35s is on their wings in order to identify unknown aircraft near Norwegian – and NATO – airspace.

In February this year, Norway recieved its first new maritime surveillance aircraft, P-8 Poseidon, that will replace the P-3 Orion. The new aircraft will also operate out of Evenes Air Base. The next P-8 arrive shortly.

On 24 March, media will have the opportunity to visit Evenes Air Force Base, learning more about the base and take a look at both the F-35 and P-8. During the stay media will meet chief of the base and the personell flying the aircraft.

  • When to meet: Media representatives are asked to arrive at 09:00. Please bring press card and id.

About Cold Response 2022

  • Cold Response 2022 is a Norwegian military exercise with invited allies and partner nations. The field exercise started on 14 March and concluded on 31 March 2022.
  • There will be some minor allied training and activity in April, after the field exercise.
  • The first allied troops arrived in Norway last autumn and earlier this winter to train and prepare for the exercise.
  • Over 30,000 soldiers from 27 countries, as well as a number of civilian agencies have taken part in the exercise.
